Description

We are social.

How social? Well, if measured in Facebook values, there are now 1.49 Bn monthly active users worldwide, and on a daily basis, Facebook welcomes 968Mn active users, with each user - - that's you, me, our friends and their friends - - spending a daily average of 46 minutes across Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram (excluding Whatsapp).

In the Philippines, online news site Rappler once headlined, "5 Filipinos open a Facebook account per minute."

But you might ask, why are these numbers important to me? What value will it give me? For starters, it reminds startup founders in absolute numbers just how big an online marketplace Facebook has become and continues to grow.

And with Facebook's goal of connecting everyone to the internet, they launched in 2014 internet.org - a set of free basic services that can now be accessed by more than a billion people in 18 countries worldwide.

THE GOOD NEWS? Facebook launched in May 2015 a developer program whose objective is to expand further their current range of free basic services to people. Developers now can offer the services of their startups (or their own advocacies) to consumers through integration with internet.org.

And to help us understand better internet.org i.e. how does one qualify to be listed in internet.org, joining this month's Raid The Fridge is JACKIE CHANG, Product Partnerships Manager for internet.org at Facebook.

So if you’re a startup founder or a developer or an organisation interested in working with internet.org, come join our Raid The Fridge on September 24th! We are re-stocking our fridge, help us empty it.

Doors open at 6:30pm, speaker's presentation begins at 8:00pm.

MORE ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Jackie leads content and partnerships development for the internet.org platform and programs running in Southeast Asia. She is responsible for working closely with internet.org platform partners to help bring free basic services to the two-thirds of the world not yet connected to the internet.

Jackie has been with Facebook for over eight years and prior to working on internet.org, she led several of the company’s strategic partnerships on the Developer Platform. Jackie spent her earlier years working with advertisers and agencies launching some of the most well-known brand campaigns on Facebook.

Jackie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a minor in Business from the University of California, Berkeley.
